J Alex Baumann, NCC, LCMHCA

Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate

Alex is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counseling Associate (LCMHCA) providing person-centered mental health services primarily to adolescents and adults. He is an independent contractor not an employee, thus he is individually responsible for all aspects of client care. He is independently insured and manages his own practice. Alex contracts with MACS PLLC for marketing, billing, and office space.

Alex earned his Master’s of Science in Mental Health Counseling at Commonwealth University in Pennsylvania. Alex served in the Army National Guard in Ohio for 6 years as a Combat Engineer developing essential life skills as he developed an interest in Veteran and Military trauma, suicide prevention, and specialize clinical skills with service members and their families.  He then moved to working with youth and their families providing direct clinical therapy and counseling using evidence based practices and trauma informed care.

Alex works with adolescents (13+) and adults through individual, family, and group therapy, supporting clients through some of life’s toughest transitions and challenges. His clinical experience includes helping people manage anxiety, depression, trauma, PTSD, suicidal thoughts, and behavioral issues, as well as improving family relationships and navigating difficult life transitions. Clients often seek out Alex when they feel stuck, overwhelmed, or are ready to make meaningful change but aren't sure how to begin.

Alex takes a down-to-earth, collaborative approach to therapy, grounded in compassion and real-world strategies. Depending on the client’s needs, he draws from evidence-based models like Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Motivational Interviewing, and traditional talk therapy. He is also in training with the MACS EMDR team to provide EMDR therapy, a powerful tool for addressing trauma and emotional distress.

A lifelong athlete himself, Alex has a particular passion for working with clients who are active in sports and fitness. He understands firsthand how athletic identity, performance pressure, injuries, and competition can impact mental health. Whether you're an athlete struggling with burnout, someone trying to return to training after injury, or a high performer feeling the weight of expectations, Alex brings insight and experience to support your goals. He helps clients manage performance anxiety, build mental resilience, recover confidence, and create sustainable balance between sport and life. His understanding of the athletic mindset makes him a natural fit for teens and adults who want a therapist who "gets it."

Clients describe Alex as approachable, nonjudgmental, and easy to connect with. He creates a safe space where people feel understood and supported, while also challenging them to grow and try new strategies. Alex believes therapy works best when it's a true partnership—and he’s committed to helping clients feel empowered, gain clarity, and build tools that actually work in real life.

Alex accepts Aetna, BCBS, CBHA, Medcost, MHN, Out of Network, and Self Pay.

Alex sees clients in the office Mondays and Wednesdays and virtually on Tuesdays and Thursdays. He currently has afterschool and evening availability.
