Marissa Johnson, MA, LCMHC

Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor & DBT Program Director

 

Marissa Johnson is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor (LPMCH) who works primarily with adolescents and adults. She is an Independent Contractor, not an employee, thus she is individually responsible for all apsect of her client's care. She is independently insured and manages her own practice. She contracts with MACS PLLC for marketing, billing, and office space.  

 

Marissa earned her Bachelors degree in Psychology from the University of Wisconsin. She then earned her Master's degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from the University of North Carolina - Charlotte. 

 

Marissa is our DBT Program Manager. She develops, leads and manages our DBT program for adults and teens.  Marissa also provided individual Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and EMDR when working with clients.  She serves clients from 12 through adulthood and has a special interest in young adults.  Marissa works to empower clients, build insight, and provide practical tools for clients to use. She incorporates mindfulness activities in sessions and believes in a mind-body balance. 

Marissa is currently undergoing a 3 year training in Somatic Experiencing, with the aim of becoming a certified Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP).  Somatic Experiencing is a trauma-focused therapeutic approach that empahsizes the body's role in healting. This method is particiularly beneficial for individuals who prefer not to extensively discuss their trauma, as it focuses on promoting body regulation.  Beyond trauma, Somatic Experiencing can effectively address issues such as anxiety, stress, and physical symptoms stemming from emotional challenges, providing a holistic approach to well-being. 

 

Marissa has experience working with individuals with mood, anxiety, and personality disorders, as well as clients who have experienced trauma or have Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). She uses a strengths-based approach and works from a wellness model to encourage overall health in clients. Marissa believes that clients have strengths within themselves to overcome difficulties and works to empower clients. 

 

Marissa has worked in a variety of settings including a community agency, an inpatient hospital setting, and a private practice. She has worked with clients of all ages from a variety of backgrounds. Her style is very accepting, non-judgmental, and empathetic.

 

Marissa truly believes in the power of a strong therapeutic relationship and works hard to build her clients' trust. She works collaboratively with the client to develop and work toward goals together.

Marissa accepts: Aetna, BCBS, CBHA, Medcost, UHC as well as Self Pay and Out of Network 

Her office hours are by appointment only Monday- Friday.
