Caroline McCloud is the co-owner and the founder of McCloud Acosta Clinical Services PLLC as well as the Director of Play Therapy and Director of Trauma Services at the Practice. She has been a practicing clinician for 20 years since attaining her MSW from the University of South Carolina in 1995 and attaining her LCSW in 1997.
Caroline's clinical expertise and practice experience is extensive. She began working in an outpatient clinical diagnostic treatment center for children ages 2 through 10 as well as as in an inpatient unit for seriously mental ill adults. In 1997, she was employed for several years in Adult Inpatient Psychiatric where she began her hospitalization experience working with the mentally ill. She opened her first private practice working evenings treating children and adults using modalities of play therapy, Gestalt, CBT, and family therapy.
Caroline then moved her focus to child welfare providing therapy for children and families involved in neglectful and abusive situations, forensic interviewing of child sexual abuse victims, individual and group therapy of sexual abuse victims, teaching the Nurturing Parent Program and receiving training & experience in sand tray therapy. She partnered with The Gingerbread House in Morganton and the Children's Advocacy Center in Hickory, performing Child Mental Health Forensic Interviews. After several years of clinical practice, she was promoted to a supervisory administrative position where she provided LCSW Supervision to staff, developed and evaluated child welfare staff & programs, provided community education through lectures and trainings, and managed both in home family interventions and foster care services. She moved her private practice from Hickory, NC to Charlotte, NC in 2005 and continued in child welfare until she left for full time private practice in 2007.
Caroline has expertise in areas of child sexual abuse identification and treatment, trauma, child physical, sexual and emotional abuse and in the diagnosis and treatment of mental illness. During this time, she also provided social work home studies and post adoption support for foreign adoptions and families seeking to adopt children from the United States.
Caroline provides specific evidence based practices such as Trauma Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and EMDR and has had formal training in these models as well as practicing them for years. She finds these are the most promissing models for treatment of trauma.
Caroline enjoys working with Adults who want to focus on the treatment of unresolved Trauma, Anxiety, EMDR, Abuse (childhood survivors), Grief & Loss, Phobias and OCD.
Caroline also works with Children from 3 to 12 years old with issues of Trauma, Abuse, Behavioral Disorders, Phobia, Anxiety, OCD, Trich, Adjustment and Mood Disorders.
Caroline is also a NASW Certified Clinical Supervisor. She provides supervision to clinical social workers and professionals who are seeking licensure as a licensed clinicians. She has provided professional supervision to over 30 LCSWA's and 10 LPC'S who have successfully attained their full licensure. Several hours per week are devoted to helping future clinicians develop and strengthen their clinical skills with direct and ethical oversight.
Caroline currently lives in Charlotte with her husband and two daughters. Her hobbies are sewing children's clothing and rescuing old furniture and decor and re-purposing them. She continues to work in several arena including providing therapy for clients, managing the practice, training, clinical supervision, and consultation with several other service providers.
