Jennifer C. Cobb, MA, LCMHCA, NCC

Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate & Play Therapist

Jennifer Cobb is a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor Associate (LCMHCA) and a Nationally Certified Counselor who works with both Children ages 3 to 11 and their parents to improve communication, meet emotional needs, and regain control. She is an Independent Contractor, not an employee, thus she is individually responsible for all aspect of her client's care. She is independently insured and manages her own practice. She contracts with MACS, PLLC for marketing, billing, and office space. As a provisionally licensed clinical mental health counselor, Jennifer is in the stage of her training that is similar to residency for physicians. She works under the supervision of a licensed clinical mental health counselor as she progresses toward full licensure.

Jennifer's education and training include the Master of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling, with a Concentration in Play Therapy from UNC-Charlotte (2016-2018), MD coursework, degree incomplete, with selectives in Child Psychiatry and Developmental Pediatrics at UNC School of Medicine (1998-2002), and the Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from NC State University (1991-1994).

Her practice focuses on the unique needs of young children. She tunes in to kids who “march to the beat of their own drummer.” She provides developmentally responsive therapy that addresses many childhood issues, including aggression, opposition, defiance, impulsivity, attention issues, anxiety, attachment disruptions, depression, grief, difficult peer/sibling relationships, parental divorce, high-conflict parental relationships, school refusal, and poor academic performance.

Jennifer uses a non-directive, strengths-based approach, allowing for therapeutic flexibility that fits the needs of a growing child. Her method fosters the child’s potential to grow in self-enhancing and pro-social ways.

Informally, Jennifer has also received significant experiential training over the past 19 years as a mom of four. Jennifer says, “My kids have definitely been my most demanding instructors, and they continue to teach me every day.”

Jennifer is Self Pay and is currently becoming credentialed to accept Aetna, BCBS, Cigna, CBHA, Medcost, and Out of Network Benefits.
